Build/posture: Skinny but wiry, holds himself very erect at all times

Distinguishing marks: ~~Tattoo on back of shoulder from pirating days~~ (he carved it off to avoid being hanged), plethora of scars, especially on back, including holes/ragged ears, two permanent piercings in each ear

Wears: Recently was given a new set of clothes, so keep in mind that he would have chosen something simpler, except for the boots. he had those custom made so that he might have all the pockets and places for gadgets he would need. He was given a new dark green tri-corner hat, which matches his old one and also his coat, which is a sleeveless, double-breasted, wool affair with heavy knee-length skirts. His pants are black, a soft material, and should tie at the knee but he refuses to use the laces, calling them foppish. His shirt buttons up the front to one side and has a mandarin collar and sleeves that he thinks are just a tad too baggy and flashy, but the color is a dark, muted grey and nearly makes up for the style. He has a pair of leather bracers he wears on his arms to avoid breaking his wrist again--his build is fragile for a spacer.

History: Apprenticed under his shipwright uncle for four years as a ship's carpenter and company accountant before leaving his homeworld under questionable circumstances. Traveled for two years with a three-vessel pirate fleet. Worked hard at learning the common tongue, but his writing is much more proper than how he speaks it--which is like a spacer. Has a recurring problem with getting beaten up for being so effeminate.

He left pirating of his own accord, but is not morally opposed to it--he simply wanted something a little safer. He takes on the morals and expectations of whatever captain he's working under. His loyalty is immense--he's taken wounds to protect his captain in battle before, more than once.

Things that displease him: People who pry, weakness in himself or others, not being able to control everything, disloyalty among crew members, being touched either violently or gently (except by Jamie, and sometimes Tag, both of whom he feels pretty comfortable around). He is absolutely TERRIFIED of rats.

Things that bring him joy: Hard physical labor, good cooking, things that hold other things (cupboards, drawers, containers of any sort) especially when they're secret, being praised by someone he respects, when people ask to read a page of his journal and he "translates" it for them

Prized possessions: His custom boots and this journal, which is written in Ham Fu Shui. (Technically, you can't read it--I'm only allowing you to do so by utilizing my god-like powers. However, he loves being asked to translate a page, so your characters should try it--I think you'll find it amusing. hehe)

First impressions: People tend to like him until he opens his mouth. He comes across as quiet at first, so he can go a long time until he manages to piss someone off, but it nearly always happens in the end. His erect carriage speaks of immense pride and a faint air of superiority complex that isn't actually there. Says tactless, abrupt things and refuses to use the word "please," calling it a "power word." (Got that from my bf ;) He is never outright filthy, but never very clean either.

Further impressions: People who pay attention to him realize that he enjoys hard work (got that from my brother) that yields tangible accomplishments, pleasing his officers, and being allowed to listen without having to give up his own information. It is easy to irritate him but difficult to truly anger him, and he is nearly incapable of holding a grudge. He is obsessed with his honor and pride, and will go great lengths to uphold either--this includes avoiding breaking rules he's agreed to abide by. He quite obviously blames himself for anything that goes wrong in his vicinity, often despite enormously obvious evidence to the contrary. He despises weakness, which he sees more of in himself than anyone else. His curious and obvious aversion to public bathing facilities seems to fit his secretive and unwelcoming demeanor. He's not frightened of most punishments, because he's undergone all the common ones and at least some of the bizarre ones. It's very easy to make him behave if you say the right things.

Did he hurt your feelings? Technically, you should follow the ship's articles and refrain from any physical fighting. However, if you do decide to smack him across his sarcastic, bratty face, I'm certainly not going to blame you--and he will never tell unless he's given a worse option. Most punishments do not fall under "worse."

Character relations: Here's a short run-down of how he feels about/treats some of the others.

Captain Flint - Admires him, feels very protective because he sees the man as a bit of a softie, but he recognizes the man is not to be trifled with

First Mate Tag - Head over heels in love with him. They're still being secret about it because romance is against the rules, and both are goody two shoes about that sort of thing.

Anthony Vega - First real friend, goes to him for advice. Sees Anthony as a helpless innocent, which is not correct.

Jamie Solaris - Very best friend. The two are a recipe for mischief and they love to play pranks on one another and if given the chance, other crewmates.

Otto Tubbs - Get along fairly well. Some kind of tension that surfaces in bad moments, so their relations are sometimes shaky, but Otto gets protective of him as if he were a younger brother. It's a good thing he doesn't notice or he'd be offended.

Ignatious - Admires the man's strength, fighting skills, and what a great helmsman he is. Loathes how the man pries, is frightened to death that the ex-pirate hunter will turn him in for hanging, and FREAKED OUT by the pet rat. Stays away from Ig when possible, and not just because of Captain's orders (they've been in two fights)
